Questions people call and ask about DS Mini Storage
Last updated: August 17, 2026
Clear answers to the most common questions about renting, access hours, locks, late fees, insurance, and unit policies.
Will you send me an invoice each month?
No invoice is sent, and no reminder either. Paying the rent on time is the tenant's responsibility, and that is set out in the agreement you sign at move-in. Put a repeating reminder in your phone on the day you move in and it stays a non-issue.
What happens if I'm late?
Rent is due on the first. The lease includes a 30% late fee on rent that isn't paid when due. If you're having trouble, call. It's a small operation, and Drew would rather hear from you.
Can I cut my own lock off if I lose the key?
No. Locks are cut by the facility only. If you have lost your key, call and arrange it rather than arriving with bolt cutters. A person cutting a lock off a storage unit is exactly what gets reported to local security.
Can I work on something inside my unit?
No. The units are for storage only. That means no working on a car or a project inside one, nothing electrical left running, and no garage sales or auctions on the premises. If you need somewhere to work, a storage unit is the wrong building.
Are my things insured while they are in storage?
No. Your belongings stay your responsibility while they are here, and the facility does not insure them for you. You can usually cover them through your own homeowners or renters policy, so call your insurer and ask before you move anything in.
How long has DS Mini Storage been in business?
DS Mini Storage has been in business in Lawson for 25 years, since 2001. That is the business itself, confirmed directly by the owner, not a website copyright date or a guess from how the site looks.
How do I prepare appliances or a vehicle for storage?
Defrost a refrigerator or freezer fully before it arrives, or it will make water and then mildew. Wipe the inside with baking soda and leave the door slightly ajar. Drain washing machine hoses and tie them down. For a vehicle, change the oil and filter and top up fluids.
